Ian Bicking has an insightful rant about “The PHP Ghetto“. It puts to words the feelings I’ve had about PHP for a while. The language feels kludgey as hell. I find the APIs available totally unpredictable and there is so much crap code floating around that is obviously poorly written. As of yet it is not as bad as the Perl world (not quite as unreadable yet) but that is not saying much.

The most interesting part of his rant is the use of the “Broken Windows” term. It is one of those concepts that seems like it is (or should be) already part of common sense.
