I’ve been playing a bit of Everquest 2 lately on one of the newer PvP servers. Last night I accidently stumbled upon this rather useful feature of the game:

EQ2 Guild Window Thumbnail
(Click the image for a larger version)

If you are not in a guild and you bring up the guild window from the EQ2 menu you are shown a list of guilds on your server that are actively recruiting. It allows guilds to publish a paragraph or two about their guild and set a number of flags. Available flags cover things such as classes and skills needed by the guild, guild type (hardcore vs casual), leadership style (see the shown tooltip for one type), and allowed language level (adult humor vs “family friendly”). All that is missing is an E-bay styled “Buy It Now!” button (though the contact links are pretty close).

Attention Blizzard and Other Game Makers: Please steal this feature.

And no, “Freeps” doesn’t have anything to do with a certain blog, it is the in game slang for “Freeport”, the evil faction within the game. The other faction “Qeynos” seems to be refered to as simply “Qs” or “qeys”. A rather amusing coincidence.

It was only a matter of time until a class-action lawsuit against Verizon was up and running for its selling of its entire call record database to the NSA. This of course violates at least one law involving the sale of such data not to mention it brings up some constitutional issues about the transfer to and long term archiving by a government without congressional or judicial involvement. I’m sure other lawsuits will be filed and they will all eventually be merged but the first one I’ve seen is from a local lawyer in Fishkill, NY.
